Northern Lights Beanie: Finishing Up
You’re almost done! Hooray!
Just a few more steps to finish up your lovely crocheted hat.
First, this hat just wouldn’t be complete without a big beautiful pom-pom!
I’ve created a tutorial showing you exactly how I make my poms for these hats.
You can find the tutorial here, I use a Clover pom-pom maker for my poms.
Please go ahead and make yourself a glorious pom!
If you used Landscapes yarn or another roving yarn as your accent colour. Do not use that to tie off your pom.
Use a nice sturdy acrylic yarn to tie around your pom so that you can pull it nice and tight without worrying that the strand will break.
Now that you have your pom made, attach it to your hat. Using your yarn needle, feed your yarn strands through the first round of stitches at the crown of the hat. (Photos below.)
Then simply tie the strands together to secure your pom-pom to your hat.
I’m one of those people who don’t weave away my ends as I work. If you’re like me, grab your yarn needle again, pull magic circle tightly closed, tie off and weave away any loose ends.
Last step! I always like to stretch out my crocheted hats after I’m done. It helps the stitches fall into place and it also stretches the hat itself. Have you ever made a hat and noticed that it just keeps stretching and stretching as you wear it? Stretching it beforehand will help you see it’s true size better.
Firmly stretch and pull the hat in different directions.
Don’t be so rough that you damage your hat, but be firm enough that it gets the hat to its correct size.
I personally don’t block this hat but feel free to do so if you’d like. Just be careful of the pom-pom if you do.
I hope you enjoyed this pattern! If so, please let me know!
Kindest Regards,
Amanda Foster
I’ve linked to certain products within this pattern. If you click and then purchase one of the products, I will earn a small commission. The awesome thing is, the commission doesn’t come out of your pocket, it’s paid to me by a big company. I would never recommend a product to you unless I think it is valuable. Every item I recommend in this tutorial is something I personally use.
