Northern Lights Beanie: Pattern - Part 6
You will now continue crocheting colourwork rounds. These rounds are created using the same technique as the previous rounds. In each round the accent stitches move over by one stitch each round, creating the staggered rainbow effect. If you need help, refer back to the photos on the previous pages.

Round 6A:
Drop main colour and switch to accent colour.
Still using K (6.5 mm) hook: Ch 3, skip 2 sts, hdc in next st. (Ch 2, skip 2 sts, hdc in next st) repeat around.
Drop accent colour and switch to main colour.
Sl st to 2nd ch from start of rnd.
16 (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23) hdc + 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46) ch sts
Rnd 6B:
Continue working with main colour.
Ch 1,hdc in first 2 skipped sts, sl st to top of next hdc.
(Hdc in next 2 skipped sts, sl st to top of next hdc) repeat around. Sl st to top of first hdc.
48 (51, 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 69) sts
Rnd 7A:
Drop main colour and switch to accent colour.
Ch 1, (hdc in next st, ch 2, skip 2 sts) repeat around.
Drop accent colour and switch to main colour.
Skip last 2 sts of the rnd as per instructions above and using main colour yarn, sl st to 1st hdc from start of rnd.
16 (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23) hdc + 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46) ch sts
Rnd 7B:
Continue working with main colour.
Ch 1, sl st to top of 1st hdc. Hdc in next 2 skipped sts. (Sl st to top of next hdc, hdc in next 2 skipped sts) repeat around.
Sl st to first sl st. 48 (51, 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 69) sts
Rnd 8A:
Drop main colour and switch to accent colour.
Ch 2, skip 1 st, hdc in next st. (Ch 2, skip 2 sts, hdc in next st) repeat around until 1 st remaining. Ch 1.
Drop accent colour and switch to main colour.
Skip last st and sl st to 2nd ch from start of rnd.
16 (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23) hdc + 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46) ch sts
Rnd 8B:
Continue working with main colour yarn.
Ch 1, hdc in the first skipped st, sl st to top of next hdc, hdc in next skipped st. (Hdc in next skipped st, sl st to top of next hdc, hdc in next skipped st) repeat around. Sl st to top of first hdc.
48 (51, 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 69) sts
Rnd 9A: Repeat rnd 6A
Rnd 9B: Repeat rnd 6B
Rnd 10A: Repeat rnd 7A
Rnd 10B: Repeat rnd 7B
Rnd 11A: Repeat rnd 8A
Rnd 11B: Repeat rnd 8B

*** For 18” & 19” (46 & 48 cm) sizes: Stop after round 12B and continue to the brim instructions.***

Rnd 13B: Repeat rnd 7B
*** For 20” (51 cm) sizes: Stop after round 13B and continue to the brim instructions. ***
Rnd 14A: Repeat rnd 8A

*** For 21” & 22” (53 & 56 cm) sizes: Stop after round 14B and continue to the brim instructions. ***
Rnd 15A: Repeat rnd 6A
Rnd 15B: Repeat rnd 6B
*** For 23” & 24” (58 & 61 cm) sizes: Stop after round 15B and continue to the brim instructions. ***
The brim will add an additional 2” (5 cm) to your crocheted hat.
If you’d like your hat to be a bit shorter or longer, crochet more or less rounds from the main hat body section.
